About Dr. howard p. tuckman, dean

Howard P. Tuckman, Ph.D. is Dean of the Fordham University Graduate School of Business, Dean of the Business Faculty, Professor of Finance and Economics, and holder of the George N. Jean Chair in Business.  Prior to joining the Fordham University community, Dr. Tuckman served as Distinguished Professor of Economics and interim dean of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis, dean of the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University, and, most recently, Dean of Rutgers Business School: Newark and New Brunswick and a P2 professor in the Department of Finance and Economics.  During his tenure as Distinguished Professor of Economics at the University of Memphis, he was recipient of both the University Distinguished Teaching Award and the University Distinguished Research Award.

A consultant for multiple corporate and government agencies, he is the author of eight books and over 130 refereed journal articles, and his work has been cited over 250 times.  He has served as a consultant to many private, nonprofit, and government entities and is on a variety of nonprofit and for-profit Boards of Directors.  Most recently, he served on the boards of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, the Business Advisory Board of NJ Transit, the Logistics Council, the Westfielld Red Cross, and the Fordham Law Center Board of Advisors.  He is also a member of several corporate boards including iNano and Sunyata.

Dr. Tuckman has published a number of articles in the health care area dealing with financing indigent care, estimation of nursing home costs, economic impact of the medical sector, medical support organizations and the impact of nonprofit status.  Dr. Tuckman has also written extensively on the financial health of nonprofit organizations.  He is the recipient of multiple awards and honors.  Among them, he has been inducted into the New Jersey High Tech Hall of Fame as an Outstanding Educator and received the B’nai B’rith International Golden Medallion Award.

His current interests in the pharmaceutical field involve three areas: how entrepreneurial activity in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries can be related to the way research questions about entrepreneurship are formulated, the economic impact of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, and the economics of innovation in the industry.  He is a member of the University Club of New York and the Stieglitz Society of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
