MBA Consulting Program

MBA Consulting

The MBA Consulting Program provides MBA students, working in consulting teams of three to six, [with the opportunity to] analyze real business problems and recommend appropriate actions for client organizations in the New York City greater metropolitan area. The program enables students to develop hands-on experience in the competitive field of consulting and increase their opportunities for employment upon completion of their MBA degrees.

Fordham’s MBA Consulting Program delivers high-quality business consulting by teams of MBA students. The teams use the same skills professional consultants would employ: upon receiving an assignment, they define the problem, gather facts through field interviews, collect and analyze data, and develop actionable recommendations delivered to the client by oral presentation and a written report.

Program Description

The program is offered as a three-credit course (FS 7810) under the supervision of Professor Allen Schiff. The Consulting Program is designated as a breadth or free elective course. However, it can count as a course toward one’s concentration with the approval of that concentration’s Area Chair and Dr. Schiff.

The course begins with an orientation session to introduce the faculty advisors to the course participants and to specify qualities associated with successful projects. Next, each student team meets with the client to obtain an understanding of the client’s organization and to discuss the issues to be investigated. The team then prepares a project statement that will define the problem, specify the research methodology, and outline the content of the final report. The project statement, when accepted by the client, provides the basis for assessing the performance of each team. At the conclusion of the project, the team submits a written report and makes an oral presentation to the client recommending appropriate action.
